The Dressmaker’s Folly is an intermediate level piece designed primarily for fun, but also, you will study the design elements of “line” and “texture”. The piece tells the story of… Lilly, the dressmaker, who was working late one night. She saw some brightly colored fabrics lying about and, on a whim; she wrapped them around the dressmaker’s form. She thought she would just have some fun and added the hat, scarf, and necklace.
In this 12-hour class, you will learn how to use line and texture to enhance a design and study perspective in a piece. You will learn over ten stitches including a padded appliquéd embellishment technique for the pin cushion. The finished piece is approximately 8” x 14”. You will be working on 18 count mono-canvas, which will be included in your kit along with all threads, needles, embellishments, and instructions.
Students should bring 1 pair of 13-inch and 1 pair of 19-inch stretcher bars (assembled), tacks, scissors, a laying tool, and, optionally, any type of stand, magnification, or light that you would like. Also, optionally, beeswax for beading and a thimble for use in padding work.
THIS WORKSHOP IS A PILOT FOR THIS CLASS FOR 2010 NATIONAL SEMINAR.
